🎬 Runway Gen-4.5: What You Get, and What It Costs

Runway Gen-4.5 arrived in December 2025 billed by Runway as "the world's best video model", and independent benchmarks have largely gone along with it. Eight months on, the more useful question isn't whether it's good — it's whether the subscription is the right way to buy AI video in a market where per-second API pricing has collapsed.

The feature nobody puts in the headline

Most Gen-4.5 coverage treats Runway as one model you either like or don't. That misses the thing that actually justifies a subscription in 2026: Runway has turned itself into an aggregator.

A paid seat reaches Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, Nano Banana Pro and Seedance 2.0 from one workspace, with one bill and one asset library. If you currently hold three separate subscriptions to compare models on the same shot, that consolidation is worth more than any single model's quality score.

It also changes how you should evaluate it. The question stops being "is Gen-4.5 better than Kling?" and becomes "is one bill and one library worth the markup over going direct?" Credits, honestly

Credit systems are where video subscriptions get slippery, so hold two facts.

Rollover is one month, not indefinite. Max's 9,500 credits roll over once. Anything you don't spend inside that window is gone. If your work is bursty — three heavy weeks then a quiet month — you will lose credits you paid for, and the effective cost per generated second is higher than the sticker suggests.

What we'd watch out for

The announced-but-not-shipped problem is the one to take seriously. Image-to-Video and Video-to-Video being "coming soon" to 4.5 is fine if you're doing text-to-video, and a dealbreaker if your entire pipeline starts from stills you've already art-directed. Second: benchmark leadership in AI video has a half-life measured in weeks. Gen-4.5 shipped in December 2025. Kling 3.0 Turbo landed in June 2026 with bundled audio at roughly $0.14/second, and Seedance 2.5 arrived in July with native 4K. The honest summary
