Every "free AI music generator" listicle repeats the same marketing lines without opening a single terms-of-service page. We opened them. This is the narrower, meaner version of our best AI music generators guide — not "which tool sounds best," but "which free tier is real, and which one is a free trial wearing a free tier's clothes."

How we tested: for each tool, we checked the current pricing page and terms of service for three things — the actual generation cap (daily or monthly), whether commercial use is allowed on the free tier without upgrading, and any hidden catch (watermarks, no export, non-commercial-only license). We're publishing the numbers, not the marketing copy.

By the numbers#

The one we're calling out: SOUNDRAW isn't actually free#

SOUNDRAW shows up on nearly every "best free AI music generator" list in 2026, and it shouldn't. You can generate and preview tracks without paying, but there is no permanent free tier that lets you download or export anything — you need the Creator plan (roughly $11/month billed annually) just to get a file out of the editor, and commercial licensing only exists on paid tiers. It's just not a free one, and "free" listicles that don't mention the export paywall haven't actually used it.

1. Sonauto / Treblo — the only genuinely unrestricted free tier#

Sonauto rebranded to Treblo in 2026 (same team, same songs, same accounts — just a new name on the same product). What hasn't changed: no daily generation cap, songs up to 4.5 minutes on the v3 model, and — the part that matters for this list — commercial rights included on the free tier itself, not gated behind a subscription. The optional paid tier only speeds up your place in the generation queue and unlocks higher-fidelity export. If you need free and clearable for monetized use, this is currently the only tool here that qualifies without an asterisk.

2. Stable Audio 3.0 — free forever, if you run it yourself#

Three of Stability AI's Stable Audio 3.0 models ship as open weights under the Stability AI Community License, which is free for organizations under $1M in annual revenue and grants you ownership and commercialization rights over what you generate. 3. Suno — best free tier for a complete song, worst license for using it#

Suno's free plan hands out 50 credits a day, enough for roughly 10 song generations (each costs about 5 credits and returns two takes) on the current v5.5 model. That's generous for prototyping hooks and structure. It is strictly non-commercial: uploading a free-tier song to a monetized YouTube channel or a storefront breaches the terms, and subscribing later does not retroactively license songs you already made for free. 4. Udio — highest audio quality free tier, tightest cap#

Udio's free plan gives you 100 credits a month with a hard 10-credits-per-day ceiling, capping you at roughly 3 songs a day up to 130 seconds each. Output quality is arguably the best-sounding free tier in this list for instrumental nuance — but it's non-commercial only, and Udio's terms retain a license to use your free generations for its own promotional and training purposes.

5. AIVA — free, but only 3 songs a month#

AIVA's Free Forever plan caps you at 3 downloads a month (MP3 and MIDI, tracks up to 3 minutes), and you don't get copyright ownership of what you generate on that tier — commercial use requires the Standard or Pro plan. If you compose orchestral or cinematic cues and only need a handful of tracks a month, the cap is livable; for anything more frequent it isn't.

6. Boomy — free "release to streaming" isn't a commercial license#

Boomy lets you create up to 25 songs a month and even release one batch (up to 3 songs) to Spotify and other DSPs on the free plan — which sounds commercial. It isn't: free-tier releases keep only 20% of streaming revenue and carry no commercial license for use outside that specific streaming release. 7. Beatoven.ai — free tier can't even export#

Beatoven's free tier gives you 10 generations, but with no downloads at all — it's strictly a listen-before-you-buy preview. The Creator plan ($7/mo) is the cheapest way to actually get a file, and even then the commercial license only covers using the music inside other content (video, podcasts, apps) — never as a standalone release on streaming, at any tier.

The honest verdict#

If "actually free and clearable for monetized use" is your bar, you have exactly two real options: Sonauto/Treblo for a turnkey web app, or Stable Audio's open-weight models if you're willing to run them yourself. Everything else on this list is free to experiment with — Suno and Udio for song quality, AIVA for orchestral cues, Boomy and Beatoven.ai for quick beds — but every one of them locks commercial rights behind a paid plan, and SOUNDRAW locks the download itself behind one.
